About 2 months ago, I bought Onkyo TX NR809 to replace my old ‘entry-level receiver’ Yamaha RXV-440 which has been my ‘friend’ for my last 9 many years! Although my former Yamaha is only an entry-level receiver, however it does carry out an excellent job on decoding and delivering DTS / Dolby Digital 6.1 home cinema’s sound. Nevertheless, I should admit that the power it produces is not large enough to drive my current floor-standing speakers (I utilized a lot smaller speakers prior to I upgraded to the large ones). Yamaha RXV-440 can only create about 65 Watt per channel, it’s as well little. In contrast, TX-NR809 is capable to produce up to 135 Watt per channel ! And Onkyo TX-NR809 has HDMI inputs too, eight inputs actually that is something that 9-years-old receiver will by no means have..

Back to my story. Because I require more power to power my speakers, I started to locate a substitution for my old Yamaha. Well, I started to search to get a substitution since final year (yeah, last year). To begin with, it’s because I wish to get the very best worth for my money. And second of all, I have to conserve money, little by small, so I can afford to buy this fantastic but a little bit out of my pocket receiver.
Final year, Onkyo TX-NR808 stood out with the crowd, stole the spotlight and received the award for the Best home cinema amplifier (category £500-£1000). That’s the reason I keep my eyes on its successor, ONKYO TX-NR809. TX-NR809 gets even much better then TX-NR808, it consists of a number of significant new audio and video upgrades when compared to last year’s TX-NR808 model.

The Onkyo TX-NR809 provides each the Mavell Qdeo and IDT’s HQV® Vida™ video upscaling and processing circuits. It also uses Imaging Science Foundation’s ISF Video Calibration technology which can not be found at this pricing category. Around the audio side it utilizes Audyssey’s MultEQ XT advanced advanced calibration and Dolby Volume for best listening experience at any sound level. It also has now front and rear USB ports for digital storage devices and Onkyo’s optional wireless USB dongle. Direct digital connection via the front-panel USB port allows you to access MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, and AAC audio files stored on a USB flash drives or iPod/iPhone. It also capable of advanced home integration with Zone 2/3 preouts along with a bi-directional remote manage with on-screen RC set-up for attached elements, and Macros for 4 actions.
