The same PS3, the same settings. Just take out the DVD and put in a game and the two back speakers have no sound coming out. In fact, some movies don’t come through the two back speakers.

I don’t know…. this probably won’t help, but I would say check your wiring to make sure all the wires are good.
Either that, or maybe the games you’re playing or the movies you’re watching don’t support 5.1 surround sound.
That’s just a guess since I haven’t heard of anyone else having that problem.

For 5.1 surround sound output u need to connect ur ps3 via optical output to ur surround sound system receiver.
for 7.1 sound output u will need to connect ur ps3 via hdmi to the
compatible sound system and from that to ur tv for display as well. Those sound modes are true digital surround sound signals that come out from the ports i mentioned…not like the av (red and white) virtual surround sound generated using only 2 channels.
