home theatre
mindless asked:

Since Home theatres have 5.1 speakers compared to most music systems which have only 2 speakers would home theatre be the better buy ahead of a music system a home theatre also doubles for watching movies but do the small speakers produce any bass effect at all.

  1. Most music is recorded in two channel (stereo). To play two channel music through a 5.1 system may sound neat, but it isn’t what the producer had in mind. More and more music is being recorded in 5.1 surround. It is magnificent. You can set a home theater system to just play in 2.1 (front and sub woofer) for listening to stereo music so you still get bass even though your main speakers may be smaller than with a traditional two channel system.

    Summary.
Stereo music is meant to be listened to on a two channel system but you can listen to it however you want. All surround systems have a two channel setting for listening to music. A lot of music is now being released in 5.1 surround.

  2. For 2 channel audio (stereo) recordings, the best possible sound will come from a 2 channel music setup. There is a major factor that most people that are new to high quality music reproduction aren’t aware of… Stereo Imaging. That is the magic of a 2 channel setup in which speakers (when properly setup and placed) will give you a sense of depth in which you should be able to pick out where the singer is in relation to the other instruments and even where they might be standing, as if on an invisible stage in front of you.
5.1 surround setups are great for overall “music from everywhere” type of sound, but you will lose the detail and imaging that 2 channel setup will offer.
The nice thing is that most decent quality Surround Sound processors will have a 2 channel mode specifically for playing stereo recordings, so if you are not rich enough to have a separate system for each type of recording (I know I sure don’t have that kind of dough!) then the better investment would be a quality 5.1(or 6.1 or even 7.1 channel) surround setup with a stereo playback mode.
My B&K receiver is an AMAZING reciever for both Home Theater as well as Stereo playback and other brands such as Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer Elite, Marantz, and even Sony and Panasonic do a quality job of that as well!

    Hope this helps!

  3. You’re thinking about home theater. To get a real movie theater experience in your living room, a DVD player and your dinky TV speakers just aren’t gonna cut it. You need a home theater audio system. There are two ways to get a home theater audio system: “all-in-one” systems, or separate components (DVD player, multichannel receiver, etc.).

you can also have 5.1 music system but with home theatre you will have good movie experience as well
