I have a Yamaha RX-V663 it has the many of the features needed to be up to date with the current home theater.
iPod connectivity
7.1 surround sound
XM SIRIUS connectivity
Dolby TRU-HD DTS-HD decoding
HDMI switching Just to name it’s highlights. In my opinion, for the price it has the best bang for the buck.

For the money ($799 retail) the Onkyo HT-S6100 is the best bet (click the link):
Lots of power, solid amplifier design, decent speakers, great powered sub, the latest surround processors (for Blu-ray Disc audio) and, of course, an iPod dock which displays title/album/artist info on the front of the receiver (says Onkyo).
