At one time or another nearly everything has to be replaced and televisions are one of those things. While looking for a new TV, you will find that televisions are now referred to in many more letters that just the plain old TV. The many different types of TVs now include LCD, Plasma, DLP and LED TVs. Buying a new television will also allow you to give up that clunky converter box since all new TVs are high definition or HD and digital ready. Nowadays, you can find many different discount LCD TVs, but if you want the latest technology, look into LED TVs.
In LCD TVs, earlier models used fluorescent tubes as backlighting. As these lights are always on, these screens do not always produce the darkest of black colors. At times this may be due to light leaks and at other times, it may be due to the limitation of fluorescent light. Fluorescent light limits the number of colors that will show through the TV screen. This is because of the quality of fluorescent light and not the liquid crystal diodes, which can show unlimited number of colors. This is why fluorescent lighting can limits the number of colors shown on a TV, while LED lighting can offer a better range of colors.
There are two different ways the LED lighting can be set up in a TV. One is to have the light emitting diode lights set along the edge of the television screen and it is what is called an edge lit LED TV. Another is to arrange them behind the screen in a setup called a back lit LED TV. If you are concerned about energy consumption, both the edgelit and backlit LED technologies use less power than a fluorescent tube LCD or a plasma screen. The edgelit LED televisions are cheaper and can also be very thin.
The backlit LED TV will give you a better viewing pleasure if you are willing to pay more. If the sharpest darkest black colors are important to you, then you will want a backlit LED TV set.
If you don’t look around, you can pay up to 50 to 100 percent higher for a LED TV compared to a similar size plasma or LCD TV. To find the best deals on cheap LED TVs, make sure you compare the prices and features at your favorite store and also at the various online bargain shopping sites.
