you need a yellow cord - audio

They yellow wire is typically used for video, so that wouldn’t be your problem. You should check to see if the two cables are connected to the output of the DVD player and not the input. Also, make sure that the cables run to the input on the home theater. Last, make sure to the correct input is chosen on the receiver. Not sure if that helps. Good luck!

While the voices should be coming out of the center channel it sounds like the your wiring is off a little or the DVD player doesn’t have the option for surround output.
Yellow - Video
Red/White - Audio
These cables are also just for stereo signals. That means only left/right channels. While a music dvd might sound good you are not listening to a center channel program.
The $39 DVD player needs to be 5.1 Dolby digital ready or DTS ready. It should have a surround channel output for a home theater sound. The audio needs to be in HDMI, component cables (red, blue, green) or digital optical.
What does the instruction manual say about hooking it up to a home theater system? I am afraid that the $39 price comes with a few short falls like not being surround sound ready.
