It only has regular A/V in, basically I just want to make sure my PS3 can still display in high definition by running it through regular A/V cables to the receiver then HDMI from the receiver to my TV.

Regular A/V cables do not transmit high quality digital signals. (I figure by regular a/v cables that you mean composite, white, red, yellow cables).
Just connect HDMI to the TV for video directly from the PS3, disable the TV speakers and use the optical output on the PS3 for digital audio; connecting it to your receiver. The HT963PA does not have video inputs so the HDMI output on your receiver is only for video from the built in DVD player.
Have fun.

Use the hdmi for your video. but under the ps3 settings you have to select the audio to come from the cables so you have to make sure that you have hdmi cable and the A/V cables that came with it plugged in the back of your ps3. So yes you can have the video in hd just leave the rca Yellow which is video un plugged and use the hdmi just have to set it up from the ps3 for the audio

If your receiver has an optical input you can use that.
