What exactly do you mean by ‘home theatre’?
You can get a decoder and speakers to get the surround sound from your dvd. and I guess that you’ll be better off with a projector for display through your laptops serial port. Practically you’ll be using your laptop as a dvd player.

First off what software? Second, what laptop and ports do you have. Do you know the model number?
What do you want the laptop to do? What equipment do you already have?
