  1. S-video gives you a better picture than the yellow composite video and the red, blue, and green (y, pb, pr) component video cables give you a better picture than s-video. To put the difference most simply the more processing the signal endures the more the picture suffers. Composite video combines luminance and chominance as well as the other components of video. These then have to be separated by the TV. S-video keeps luminance and chrominance separated. Component video keeps the video components separated so the TV does not need to significantly process / degrade the signal. Can you see the difference? Yes. I have put together displays for two stores that enabled customers to see the same source through different kinds of video cables and the improvements in both cases were quite noticeable.
