lorraine1982 asked:

we got our home theatre which is a sony DAV-DZ860W. we have set it up and read through the manual. but we can’t get the surround speakers to work. could it be because they are behind our sofa’s and the signal can’t get through? also how do u get the sound to work with the tv. it works when we watch a movie or listen to music but not the tv. its just the 2 front speakers and the sub woofer. the centre speaker doesn’t come on either. please help as its baffling us!

  1. Unless you’re watching Sky movies or Sports,or an HD broadcast, the surround won’t work as no-one broadcasts surround soundtracks apart from those I mentioned. Basic TV is stereo only, hence only the fronts and sub working.

As for the rears not working, afraid I have to fess up and say I don’t know. Have you connected them as per instructions? Had a quick look at your system and it says they need to be connected to each other and plugged in. Does the manual say they need line of sight? If they’re behind the sofa, is it just that you can’t hear them? Rear signals aren’t very loud anyway. Try the manual and upping the vol to the rears. Try moving them somewhere less discrete/closer til you get them to work and then move around to see if it is a positional thing.
