Should I add recliners and get rid of the sofas, should I rearrange the current sofa’s……..overall what can I do to make the viewing area more comfortable for me and my guests to watch TV.

  1. I couldn’t see your pic so I’m going to have to take a stab at it…

Berkline is the premier theater recliner manufacturer. The only drawback you’ll find is that recliners take up more room and you won’t have as much seating in the end. They are pretty expensive, but add a wow factor because of the built in cup holders. If you have a wide room then a 3 or 4 seat in a curved configuration is awesome.

You can also make a second row seating platform. Best construction method is to take a thin plywood sheath and build a frame on top of it (16″ spacing) with 2×10’s or 2×12’s. Make it as wide to fit your seats and as deep as the seats plus a few feet for leg room. Stuff the framing cavities with insulation to dampen the sound and to stop the riser from becoming a huge resonator (will make it feel solid too). Top it with some 3/4″ ply or OSB leaving a lip around the edge (like you see on stairs). Carpet it and you’re all set. That will add 3 or 4 more seating positions and make it feel more theater like.

Check out the second link (my own theater construction thread)
