I know I have to wire it for 8 ohms, easy, but will I get the same results as I did in my car? I know the room volume will be different so it will sound different. I won’t have my amp hooked up to the subs though, so I can’t figure how it will sound as good. Or how can I hook up my amp also without spending an arm and a leg on a inverter?

  1. well for starters, the connectors probably won’t be compatible, plus your subwoofers will need to be powered by something. you better check your amp can handle it or expect a short-circuit that will inconvenience you bigtime and cause you to howl at the moon like a dog from pure insanity.

  2. you can do it, but you are going to need a power source

so 1 way, if your Rec. canrun 4 omhs, I dont know how you are going to change it, is hook it up to the B: speakers, again this will only do it right if you rec is high power, a big power supply in the Rec.

another way to do it, is too hook up another amp for it, like a old Rec or amp laying around and running the pre out to the other rec and out thru he new speakers out put

  3. Both of the previous answers can damage your equipment, especially the first one. The second answer might work O.K, but the amplifiers in receivers are designed full range sound… so it will be sending 20-20K HZ out to your sub, basicilly tryign to make it play every sound (Bad idea).

The reason home subwoofers are usually powered and car subs have amps that are different the regular car amps is that subwoofers run on amplifers that are very powerful but not efficent (Class D), which means that can put out alot of power but it dosen’t sound very good (not very noticible for the limited sound a subwoofer plays)

Now, to answer your question. WHat you need to do is buy an AC-DC converter, basicilly it will allow you to hook up your subwoofer’s amplifier to your home current. After that, you just hook it as you would in the car.

However, one of these guys will probilbly cost you around the same price as a cheap home sub ($100 bucks or so)

  4. Go buy a home sub. It is not worth the time, effort or money to do this.

  6. You need a subwoofer amplifier.
These are listed by RMS watts, not peak watts, max watts, or some other useless wattage rating commonly used in car audio. So try to find the RMS rating for your sub to decide which amp you need. If the price gets too high & your subs aren’t that good, you’re better off going to Best Buy & buying a home theater sub.

  7. Back up your car really fast into the wall you want to install your subwoofers. Now open the trunk.
    Problem solved.

Or you could be a normal human being & just buy a powered subwoofer for your home theater.

    Infinity TSS-SUB4000 powered subwoofer $999.99
