When the power comes back on it sometimes sends a surge through the line. Did you have a surge protector? If so, did you replace it after the last time the power went out? If not, the protector could have been blown after the last power surge and it was no longer protecting your system.
Is there a burnt smell? You could have fried the components for you home theater system.

I have a philips 1000 w. system. After a surge, mine would not turn on or off with the on/off remote. I thought it had burned the system out.
The standby lite stayed on. I pressed the “tv” button on the remote and to my surprise a few seconds later the system came on. The off button on the remote still works.
