If i were to buy this Home Theatre Audio system: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10086730&catid=20311#
How easy would it be to hook it up, and would it just do 5.1 for what is playing from its own dvd player or for everything coming out of the tv.

  1. Why it would be hard to do? Follow the instruction and connect the cables as shown on the book, that’s all; remember only that to have the 3d sound effects, you will have to put the 2 rear speakers behind of your armchair.
To play the TV broadcastings by surround sound, you have to connect the auxiliary audio output of your tv-set to the auxiliary input of the system amplifier: when the broadcasts (movies, live concerts, etc.) have the encoded surround sound, it will be decoded and played by all the 6 loudspeakers.
Obviously there is no problem with the dvd’s, as they will be played directly by their dolby digital sound encoding.

  2. Good for you - you spotted the flaw in this system.

This system is a DVD playback system only.

You cannot hook up a CATV box to it, or a PS3, or any outboard device.

Do NOT buy any of these el-cheepo ’systems’. They are just full of heartbreak and offer little to no expandability.
