Get yourself a Denon, Onkyo, or Yamaha receiver that fits your budget and has HDMI 1.3 upconversion, not just passthrough.
Lowest suitable models:
Denon…….. AVR 2308 CI ($499.99)
Onkyo…….. TX-SR706 ($599.99)
Yamaha….. RX V663 ($499.99)
I’ve owned Denon and Onkyo, currently I have an Onkyo 905 (their top model). I prefer Denon. Be sure to check how many inputs they have - this is important if you have lots of sources, or plan to add more later.
Speakers are more subjective… go to some home theater stores and listen to speakers in your price range and buy the ones that sound the best. I bought 3 Athena FS-2’s for my L/R/C and a pair of FS-1’s for my SR/SL. I built my own sub, but you can pick up one from the same line as your speakers.
