If I use the HD MI CABLE from tv to home theatre system do I still use the audio out & in cable?

  1. As long as the connection isn’t just a pass through HDMI which does not support audio… You should not need any other connections.

  2. No…you should be hooking your source (Cable TV, Dish or DVD) to the receiver input with the highest quality cable (HDMI or component cable) (not A/V cable ((yellow, red, white)) that the home theater system can accept.

    Then the video out from the home theater system goes to the TV input and you should do the same…use the highest quality cable that matches. The audio should be going to the surround speakers directly from the the home theater system. You do not need audio cables to the TV. The volume will be controlled by the home theater system. Then TV channels will be changed by the cable box remote etc…

  3. You should hook all components up to the receiver itself and then run an HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV.
