dvd players
funnelcake asked:

I’m pretty technically challenged, and since my DVD player recently broke down, I want to get a portable one so I can use it outside the home too. But I also want to get a surround sound speaker system.. Would a portable dvd player work with it ? Thanks!
I should specify. The speakers are for using at home. I was planning to buy a regular dvd player with a speaker system.. but I travel a lot and getting a portable one will fit both situations. So I just wanted to know if speaker systems would work with the portable dvd player.

  1. Provided you add a receiver to power the speakers your portable DVD player will work fine with a home theater system. Just hook up to a receiver and TV.

  2. Sure. If the connections dont match you can go to radio shack and buy an adapter to make them fit and you are ready to go!

  3. Portable DVD players are designed for mobility, therefore they are typically not designed to be connected to a surround sound system. They are designed to be connected to headphones to be used in a car, airplane or small area.

I am confused why you would want to connect it to a surround sound system that would weigh more than the DVD player itself.

If you want to use speakers, you can buy some stereo computer speakers with a 3.5mm mini-jack. If you want it loud, then buy some powered computer speakers.

If you want surround speakers, then you will need to buy 5 speakers along with a surround sound receiver. This would over course require a power source, where a portable DVD player can solely rely on a battery.
