Do I need a receiver with this home theatre system?
We just have a basic tube TV and an x-box 360, just want our movies and music to sound good.

No. This is a stand alone unit known as a Home Theater In a Box (HTIB).

Not for it to operate.
But most are unhappy with the amount of inputs this model offers. If you have a HDTV and want digital sound to go to the HTIB you won’t be able to do it with this unit, it has no additional digital ins.
I would look at a better HTIB from Onkyo, or better yet configure a separates setup, it will cost you more now, but in the long run you will most likely be happier. Here too is some light recommended reading to help you pick a system.

Hi,
You are looking at a Home Theatre System, 5.1. This one does not include a dedicated receiver. This means the box which all the speakers hook into is not a true receiver. The connections usually are different than on regular speaker connections. If you later switch, you may have to splice wires. Take a look at a true audio/video reciever, and look at the back for inputs. Look at the connections, then decided. Remember when something breaks on the one you are looking at at it is much harder to replace. If you buy a system that has a true reciever, then you can just replace one item and keep the rest.
