i would like to get one. it would be great to put my home movies, and to tape my favorite shows.
i would like to know if it’s easy to use, and how can i make sure that the dvd’s will work on all DVD players?
also can you use them to copy a movie or tv show that was once recorded on to a VHS tape?
what will i need to set one up?

Get a PC, buy a DVD recorder, the more you spend the better the equipment, most of the stuff you have recorded on tape is available to purchase, home movies on tape can be converted but you have to be careful of the quality cos it can get worse rather than better!! My panasonic DVD recorder plugs into me tele and its pucker, i can also plug my video into it and record tapes, it cost me £500 last year and its a bit expensive but i bought a brand name and lots of plugs to ensure that it works!
Also, go to a store and ask, asking random people on the net is the same as standing on the street and asking, why dont you email a company like panasonic and confirm before you buy you lazy git :@)

They are easy to use — a lot like a VCR. They have a process called Finalizing that writes to the DVD after you’re done recording to let it play in any DVD player. Most let you use some form of Read/Write DVD that lets you reuse that DVD like you would a tape in a VCR.
I’ve transferred many TV shows (sports, mainly) to DVD from VHS tapes. Purchased, pre-recorded, tapes (i.e. movies or TV shows) probably can’t be copied without one of the special copy-protection elimination boxes (available separately, not in the recorder).
Depending on your setup, you may need to buy some additional cables to take advantage of all of its capabilities (but that’s true of most A/V equipment purchases).
I discovered a bug in my Panasonic DVD recorder that prevents it from recording to the DVD if you have multiple weekly recording events (like recording a show every Monday and a different show every Tuesday). If this sounds like something you’d want to do, avoid them, but if you don’t care, it’s a good recorder.
