My TV came with an integrated DVD player, and no audio output… Is there any possible way I can connect a Home Theatre so I can watch DVDs with surround sound?

I have heard mixed reviews. After spending a lot of $$ I don’t want to cut any corners on sorry cables but i don’t want to overspend on cables like Monster if I’m not going to be able to tell the difference.
Are the monster cables worth the extra bucks?

I have switched left to right speakers and the noise comes out of the other speaker so the speakers are fine. The noise is there no matter what mode I use and if the volume is up or down the noise does not change. There is nothing new added to the cabinet that houses everything. Any ideas?
Speakers are fine I switched them. Noise happened on the switched speaker as well.
The sound is there no matter what I run dvd etc. And when you adjust the volume even mute it is there. I did have the wires near a power bar and I will move it. Wire is that copper colored wire with silver and copeer leads.
I have removed the power bar and replaced the cable. Sound is still there.

I am working on the specifications for a home theatre setup. The couch is currently 14 feet away from the wall where I will mount the screen. I’m trying to figure out how big the screen should be. I want to know if there is a rule-of-thumb ratio between screen diagonal, screen width or screen heigth. I can move the couch, and adjust other things, including opting for a smaller screen. I am positively going to purchase a front projector, most likely based on DLP technology. Also, I am going to purchase a professional screen (to receive the image from the projector). Finally, the room lighting can be near pitch black, BUT it is likely that there will be ambient light, since we will be building a bar at the back of the room as well.
